Latest Car Radio and Audio System Trends in South Africa

Remember the old days when changing the radio station or CD meant having to do so at a red robot or before driving off to your destination? You most probably had to search through the CD case for the desired CD and then waited until the next stop before replacing the old one. Then came the multiple disk systems, which made it easier to have three to five CDs inserted and ready to play. However, you still had to take your eyes off the road to jump between disks or songs.

Fortunately, with technology advances and modern car radio installations, you don’t have to be concerned about muffled sounds, changing CDs or the radio station at every possible stop you can make. Following advances in cellphone technology, the larger audio systems of old have made way for streamlined audio entertainment systems.

We are at the stage when car radio installations are handled by experts, such as the technicians at our fitment centre. You can now avoid costly car radio installation mistakes at the hands of so-called DIY experts.

Along with professional fitment centres comes the ability to install cutting-edge technologies, thus allowing for voice-activated command systems, improved connectivity with mobile devices, satellite enabled radio systems and super-quality music sound.

Indeed, with modern systems, you can even have your GPS system integrated with the radio system and can install a screen for navigation. All of these can be controlled without having to make stops for changes.

Wireless technology is now fully supported, thus enabling the ability to plug your smartphone into the radio system and listen to your favourite tunes stored on the phone through the vehicle sound system.

Bluetooth is another trend that we can observe. What makes this especially noteworthy is the high-quality over the audio system. The clarity of the music is amazing because of newer Bluetooth formats.

Android and Apple have taken hold of the new opportunities and have released operating systems specifically suited for car audio systems. With these operating systems, you can now safely access features on your mobile device, such as SMS, phone calls and navigation through voice recognition technology.

Another trend is the ability of modern car entertainment systems to stream high resolution digital files. While mp3 formats often reduce the frequency range of the audio in order to get smaller file formats, high-resolution file formats keep the sound quality. It is no longer a requirement to convert music for the car system into mp3 format, which has a lower sound quality. You can now play large audio files while enjoying crystal clear sound.

Making the most of the technology available starts with investing in top-quality car radio systems and having the installations done at professional fitment centres such as Electronic Fitment Centre.
