Smash and Grab Protection: Peace of Mind on the Road

Crimes of opportunity happen daily, whether it’s garden furniture and bicycles being stolen or, more dangerously, smash and grab incidences. With the increased reports of crimes happening along South Africa’s roadways, we at Electronic Fitment Centre would suggest that you consider having smash and grab safety film applied to your windows, providing you with peace of mind whilst idling at intersections or parked.

Difference Between Normal Tint and Smash and Grab Film

Smash and grab film is applied to your vehicle’s windows to reinforce them. Made from the latest technologies and additives, it provides an added layer of protection that a normal window tint doesn’t. Where a normal tint varies in thickness between 25 and 50 microns, smash and grab film is between 100 and 300 microns and is laminated for strength. Safety film provides protection to the interior of your vehicle, reduces harmful glares, blocks out UV rays, and adds a layer of privacy.

Protecting Your Valuables

Often, loose items are left in vehicles, such as handbags, phones, and wallets, making them a visible attraction to thieves. When at a stop street or idling at a robot, smash and grab safety film assists in preventing thieves from gaining access to the inside of your vehicle, buying you precious time to get away safely. The film is designed to keep the pieces of glass in place when your window is struck by a sharp object, which acts as a hurdle to thieves.

Smash and grab safety film is the ideal deterrent when your vehicle is parked. The noise of breaking glass will quickly attract the attention of passersby and shattering the window will set off your car alarm, making enough noise to scare thieves off.

Additional Preventative Measures to Take

At Electronic Fitment Centre, your safety is our concern, and together with the application of Llumar® window film, we would suggest that you follow these steps to keep yourself, passengers, and valuables safe whilst on the road:

  1. Lock all doors and close all windows.

  2. Be aware of your surroundings and look out for strangers near your vehicle.

  3. If there is broken glass on the road, chances are that a smash and grab incident has taken place, so be alert.

  4. Lock your valuables in your boot.

  5. If possible, park your vehicle in attended parking lots.

  6. Always activate your alarm, even if it’s a quick dash into the shops.

Hopefully, these additional safety tips will assist in keeping you and your loved ones safe.
