Perhaps, 20 years ago, window tinting was just a way to make your car’s glass darker. Today, however, it serves more than one purpose. Sure, there are still products out there that stuck to that old brief but they are not worth your time. Not if you can get so much more with it. Because you see, the modern equivalent from a reputable supplier is now also a safety product. In addition, there are more legal requirements nowadays as well, so it’s not simply a matter of going as dark as you want. By law, side glass has to let through at least 35% light and your windscreen, at least 70%.
When you have SunTek window tinting fitted, you can choose either that dark, 35% tint or a lighter, 50% tint. In addition, two thicknesses are offered – either 100 or 150 µm (micron – a thousandth of a millimetre). Why would the thickness matter? Because the thicker it is, the stronger it is. See, the SunTek product is not just window tinting, it is also anti-smash-and-grab protection film that acts in a similar way on your side glass that lamination does on a windscreen – to keep the pane in one piece after being smashed. Without it, side glass simply disintegrates into a thousand pieces and leaves your car open for an opportunistic thief to grab what they can – or harm you. With the pane still intact, you can quickly drive off and get away from the scene.
Anti-smash-and-grab film, therefore, buys you valuable time and can mean the difference between you losing a pair of sunglasses, cellphone, or laptop or getting injured, and getting away shaken but otherwise none the worse for wear, except for your broken door glass. And that is why you should only buy the best product, which carries a 7-year nationwide guarantee and is imported from the USA – SunTek Window Films. When tinting simply isn’t enough.
But what if your car’s glass is already tinted and you don’t want it any darker, yet you would like to benefit from the extra protection that SunTek film can offer? No problem, because the film is also available in a clear derivative that adds no tint at all, yet is just as strong and acts as anti-smash-and-grab film just the same.
